Australian G1G1 program

Postby Grendel » Tue Nov 25, 2008 10:41 pm

I have just heard that the Australian program commences on November 30. This is outstanding news. We have a project team in the early stages of planning to commence a "Give Many" program via donations from the coffee industry and are keen to get going ASAP.

I am looking forward to seeing a strong Australian contribution to the OLPC program.

I'm excited to hear about the Australian program, but no mention has been made on the Oz site since November 30. Do we have any news about when the Oz program will kick off?

G1G1 through Amazon UK would be £325 (includes £50 P/H).

I've just received an email with details on how to pay through the online payment page. Unfortunately, whoever set it up didn't realise that Victoria is part of Australia. It refuses to accept any address in Victoria. Any idea how I'm supposed to pay?

Edit: It's just been fixed! ( I didn't think Victoria had declared independence)

I got my order processed last night as well. Already lining up some 'show and tell' sessions in CBD cafes.

Shipping notification - I have received an email with shipping details - looks like the Australian program will have moved the laptops out in time for Christmas!

Very pleased - now downloading the manual before turning it on, you'd think I would have d/l the thing already. . .

Grendel, how did you hear about the G1G1 programme in Australia?

I only found out by chance by a posting on linuxtoday.com, and re-checked that I had been subscribed to olpc-au-announce@lists.olpc.org.au, and found that my list subscription had been shifted to olpcfriends-announce@lists.olpcfriends.org.

I have since made contact with the people involved with olpcfriends.org and olpc.org.au and have been told that the G1G1 programme in Australia will be extended through January 2009.

Arthur.

I've been watching the OLPC program for a little over 3 years now and was very frustrated when the G1G1 program for North America kicked off - for North America only. I googled G1G1 in late October/Early November and accidentally restricted my search to Australia - I was surprised to see a link to the .org.au site which I followed and found the recently constructed and only partially operational site.

I emailed the OLPC crew here and got all the details.
