New Forum??? What's Happening???

Postby Moto » Sat Jan 26, 2008 10:27 pm

Kinda feeling like a ping pong ball now.

What's going on? OLPChelp gets a new look, then it completely changes again......

When, or where is the final board style gonna be settled on?

Looking for some FYI on what's going on.

Yeah! I would have liked some more warning! I had just registered with the old look, all of a sudden got the older look, and wasn't registered any more. So I re-registered, activated, and here I am still.

But, actually, I liked the Vanilla look a little better, even if the colors were a little too bland. I like a simpler, less busy look... I'm quite happy with Gnome, so Vanilla was fine.

Oh, well. I hope the traffic volume picks up enough to make everyone happy.

Yep...register....post....BLAM!!!! ...must re-register to post...

But I like this standard style "forum" atmosphere better.

Just wondering what bugs are in need of fixing?

And when the next big change is gonna happen?

Sorry guys. We are done with the forum changes, promise.

Look at most viewed users. within a half hour of getting phpbb3 live (before we announce on the email) we had three times as many users as Vanilla ever had. People were getting turned off from the format, and in the best interest of the community, we decided to revert the upgrade. I, personally, am really sorry for the hassle. We never intended to have these hassles, and it is our fault for not getting sufficient feedback before we made the trade from phpbb2 to Vanilla.

The improvement is already apparently. The traditional view is much more appealing to users to a degree we never anticipated. Hope you understand. Questions welcome.

It looks nice and I'm happy there are more users.

Question: Can this one have RSS?

phpBB is 10x better than Vanilla. I'm actually quite confused why they went with Vanilla in the first place. I've never seen a board use it, it's so clunky, alien, and honestly ugly. phpBB's nice.

Well.. I like it. It was different, and after you assimilated those diferences, you would see how better that difference made. For example, it would give an overview of the most recent topics of all the forums; With Read/Unread being shown with a subtle-but-not-too-much color difference, this was easy to scan all forums; It was highly extensible (over 200+ add-ons, and many styles and themes) so every kind of thing you might have missed was probable available to install, and many more you never dreamed of; It integrated PM everywhere. Well... and it was sweet looking.

I agree, but the problem is that a lot of new people come and they won't be wanting to see something different that they need to assimilate.

Yep, I've accepted this current forum, although I still prefered the other one.

I saw the other site yesterday and it was confusing.

The 60 seconds i've spent here now has been much better.

I like it...

Got new messages, about forum changing. Went to work and new forum again. That is okay with me I like the latest better.

No problems here from me.

Thanks for putting the two together. Less head problems, where did I post it. Where did I read it.

NOW only need to search one.

Seems like a number of posts got lost between the 2 forum system updates. Any chance of recovering them?

Does phpBB have an option to allow the subscriber customize the look? That is the display colors and fonts used?

Short answer: Yes

Longer answer, the "skin" choice you can make have to be added by the Admin's.

Currently it looks like there's only one choice.

I'm sure as more people join and request some different looks and colors they can be added quite quickly.
