Quoting posts

Can somebody give me quick instructions in how to quote from a previous post? I went to the phpBB User Guide and I swear I followed the directions exactly, but my posts leave the markup language in place on the finished post rather than displaying the quote in the neat shaded boxes like everyone else's. It's really embarrassing but I am not at all familiar with this BB software. Please help! Thanks in advance.

There is a "quote" button in every post.

Click it. Then you can edit that quote to suit your needs.

or, you can cut and paste like you normally would then use the "quote" tags.

or, you can type the quote tags in:

[ quote] blah blah blah..... [ /quote]

but remove the spaces that I included in the brackets.....

it'll then look like this:

blah blah blah.....

Thanks--that's what I was doing--but I see now that I inadvertently cut off the tag at the end of the quote when I edited the text.
