Dropping the Banhammer

Postby koolkat » Thu Jun 19, 2008 4:58 am

So just out of curiosity why hasn't burbonix.com been banninated yet? It (I will not call it a human because I suspect it to be a robot) has never ever posted any constructive posts. I have repeatedly reported the posts, but I think after 2 blatant spam posts, if not 1, they should be banned.

Yet again bourbonix.com posts spam is the purpose of this board to post spam? Would you ban bourbonix.com?

Absolutely. Taken care of. We are also starting to bring on community members to the moderation team to help propagate. Approving anonymous messages (ensuring they aren't spam) and getting rid of the spam on the forum can be a much more shared (more distributed, thus more efficient) process.

It looks like some bot got fully adapted to phpBB3:
kitty4uhig, pnfeeoo, sneakersupplier, kn0c, howerson
are the latest this week that need banning :(

They sure did. Thanks for the heads up, and +1 for reporting the spam posts as you see them.

Maybe we can get a better CAPTCHA system, or similar, to keep the bots to a minimum. Suggestions welcome.

It's got to be some sort of irony that the spammer chooses the thread about stopping spammers to spam on.

We need a captcha system like this one:

Edit: oh, sorry. I guess I'm late to the game: http://www.recordcup.com/contest/249/th ... _code.html

"buift" is still spamming. It doesn't appear to be a real user (not a link, and cannot manually ban: "The requested users do not exist."), but yet he keeps on posting. Bug in phpbb3? Or is he able to delete his own user after every spam such that he's always a phantom?

zswnews??? bot seems to have fully adapted to the captcha (or gotten around it). It is creating one account per post, and just cycling through numbers. Anything we can do about just banning any username that starts with "zswnews"?

Good suggestion. I set that ban in place, message back if it doesn't work.

lol well, looks like they're smarter than us by far! newest one is "daanizswnews", prepending to zswnews now. I wonder how the bots are getting through the captchas so easily.
