if that were true, i would have never learned to read. instead, whenever i found a word i didn't recognize, i looked it up. people who already "know how to read" and are satisfied with their vocabulary don't think to apply the same rule to learning the language of computers, but with xo "everyone is a teacher" and "everyone is a learner." consider the latter.
ff is a browser, like opera. i assumed you were using the one in xo, but tabs in whatever browser you use: safari/ff/opera (there you get definition from context) on a mac should help you make the most of this forum, despite its level of organization. if you're using opera my advice applies regardless of whether you looked up ff or not.
I see no sign of a "view latest post" feature on my page on the right side or anyplace else. (where would the "index of this forum" be?)
the "view latest post" feature. unfortunately this typically looks like an incredibly tiny page icon, from the right column of the index of each forum.
at the top of the page you're reading now, you should find a list of links that says:
* Board index ‹ Announcements ‹ Forum Announcements & Feedback
click the board index link and you'll see a familiar page.
p.s. i already go out of my way to see to it that if someone has to look up a term i use, that it's a very common term- not only among programmers- and that hopefully they will not have to look up many or any words at all. sometimes we forget and use an acronym when it's not truly necessary, but there are things that can be done. we geeks have a few things to learn, but so does everyone else.
xo tip: when using browse activity, look to the bar at the top of the screen that says "activity | edit | browse | view" ... clicking on "view" will give you two icons in the top left that look like magnifying glasses with - and + signs. they will zoom text (and sometimes pictures) just like opera will... although opera has always done a slightly better job of it than gecko (browse and ff have gecko in common, it provides much of the user experience) gecko does a very nice job most of the time.
it's good to remember that xo and sugar are designed for children who are still exploring and learning, not old curmudgeons like you and me, who have given up on trying new things just for the sake of curiosity. i think that's the real reason they learn faster than we do, they have an urge, which traditional schooling divides and conquers in us until it dies.
but there's still time to expand our minds a little. if you'd really given up, you wouldn't have asked. that's why the net is fantastic, it lets us ask and learn the things we wouldn't have been willing to ask or explore in the time that preceded it.
