[Localization] Hand writing recognition

Hello,
the touch pad of the XO can be used for pointing and writing/drawing.
Except painting software where is writing/drawing used now?
If there is any hand writing recognition software it will need to be
localized as well. Does anyone have information on the topic?

Thanks,
Alexander.

Hi alexander,

As far as i know there is not other software besides paint that is "sugarized" enough to be used in the XO.

Would be nice to know about other kind of software to be sugarized and localized.

Etoys has drawing tools, and a character recognizer for writing. It's
invoked by Ctrl-R which currently is grabbed by Sugar so it is not
accessible. It's also rather simplistic, there is a much better one
available for Etoys (called "Genie"), but this is not currently
shipped on the XO. If there is interest (and the tablet mode is fixed
to actually work with a pen) we might decide to inclide it.

I don't think localization was considered in these recognizers, they
are character-based (like Graffiti) and have to be trained.
