Hello-

My name is Cary Clarke and I am a middle school ELL teacher, musician
and non-profit director (PDX Pop Now!) in Portland, OR. Like many
others, I am in awe of the possibilities that your work presents for
closing the education and technology gap in the developing world.
Please let me know if there is some way in which I can help.

Thank you for your work,

Clarke Cary

Hi Clarke,

I am in the process of developing an activity (a program) to help pre-literate
kids learn about quantities (numbers). I would VERY much appreciate a chance
to bounce what I am trying to do off of a teacher.

The opportunity I am working on right now has to do with the first stages of
mastering the dexterity of writing numbers and the conceptual meaning of
numbers.

If you can help I would appreciate it. If not could you see if you could find
someone that could.

Thanks.

Kent

P.S. It would be nice if a resource of elementary school teachers could form
for people like me to get feedback about activities we are working on.

Kent,

the OLE Nepal folks are developing activities that include number
learning. They work with teachers, and the idea was to make those
activities adaptable to other locales. Maybe you could join efforts:

Hey Kent,

We are working on the same problems here in Nepal! We have created a
number of activities to teach basic quantities and then lead up to using
numerical symbols.

You can check them out here.

http://www.olenepal.org/activities_download.html

They are all released under the BSD license so pls take the time to
improve upon them, change them, or just create something completely new
and better.

We are doing virtually all of our activity development with EToys
because it is simple, powerful, and accessible to non-technical people.
We have two teachers on our team and they are heavily involved in
activity development but we could always use more contributions from
teachers.

We would really love to see teachers be able to create learning
activities on their own. The long term goal of activity of development
should be that educators can quickly develop activities that meet their
own needs. Squeak and EToys seem to be the right tool for this.
