Can someone sell or lend me Serial cable to fix my XO-1?

Postby mustardseed » Fri Mar 19, 2010 12:59 am

I have read all the threads on how to fix my XO-1. It is having the issue where if it's been in storage and the clock battery dies then the system acts like it is bricked.

I cannot for the life of me find a connector to be able to make the serial cable to fix it. The crimper for the molex connector was like $200!

I contacted a few repair centers here in the US, but they were not doing repairs anymore.

Can someone sell or lend me the serial cable I need to fix my laptop? My son is now finally old enough to use it and I think he will get a lot of use out of it. Thanks!

Just to be sure, the bricked repair process is documented here, see: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Fix_Clock

And there are a few active volunteer repair centers listed here, see: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Repair_center_locations

See PM for another suggestion.

Look at this thread:

It is not just a serial cable. You must have a serial adapter that converts (supplies) the signals at 3 volts or a USB to serial adapter (3.3 volts).

If you can not fabricate the final connector to the XO port, send me a personal message for an improvised connector. It is really a simple process using a PC as terminal, if you have the adapter/cables/PC drivers and you are capable of some disassembly to remove the back of the XO (which requires removing some screws from the front).

Don't forget to charge the internal RTC clock battery by leaving the XO on for several hours (eventhough it does not boot), if it is discharged.
