wifi wep password - won't work!

Postby hoopla » Mon Apr 28, 2008 3:11 pm

Hey there - is anyone else having problems signing onto wireless networks with WEP encryption? I have a password, which I've tried converting to Hex in hopes that I can sign on... but have so far only been able to use password-less networks.

I'm thinking it's because the WEP->HEX converter gives out a 104/128-bit hex code, while the XO wants a 40/128-bit hex code, but don't know anything about encryption so I could be making this up.

Any suggestions?

I haven't been able to connect either. I've read that
converting a password (or passphrase) to a key is not
standardized in WEP, and that one should look at the actual
key on the access point.

Your theory about a 40-bit key sounds good to me, especially
since that is the default key length for some linksys
products.

In any case, WEP is very insecure and don't use it if
you have other options.
