DNS doesn't work in Browse?

Postby altapwdr » Sat Aug 23, 2008 2:24 pm

Hi,

We got a OLPC for my son last winter and just recently started using it.

The main issue I have is that while it connects with my wifi network
(airport extreme) DNS only half works.

I can go into terminal and ping google.com, etc. without issue.

However when I go into Browse it can't find google.com most of the time.
I can go directly to the ip address and browse works fine.
About 1 out of 20 times I can go to google.com via domain name.
But when I try to click on a link found through google it just hangs and never finds the site.

This is driving me batty. I have tried to upgrade the software- but this left me
without the packages including browse- so I reverted.

I have been trying to load opera as a backup using the RPM mechanism but to no avail
since it won't let me su -.

Any help is greatly appreciated

thanks

See :

and the few replies before and after it. Some similarity.
