Turn off WiFi and have that setting persist thru reboot?

Postby stevenkan » Fri Mar 20, 2009 8:06 pm

If I turn off the WiFi in the Control Panel, I want it to _stay_ off even if my son reboots it. Presently the WiFi gets turned on every time the machine boots up (G1G1, latest software/firmware).

I don't want to turn it off from the CLI because we _do_ occasionally use it to install new activities, etc., and I don't want to have to remember some arcane text command in order to turn it back on. Unless I can alias the commands to something _really_ idiot-proof like "wifi on" and "wifi off" or something like that.

Besides controlling my 5-yr-old's internet access, I also am trying to prevent the XO from killing its battery when we put it to sleep. Whenever he sleeps it, the WiFi stays on and drains the battery.

Thanks!

Have you checked the extreme power management option in the control panel?

See: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Feature_Longer_battery_life

Maybe try suggestions here:
