can XO chat with pc?

Postby frogger » Fri Dec 09, 2011 1:06 am

Hello, I have a grandson away from me who has XO.
Is it possible for me to chat with him? I have PC with windows 7. How would we do that? What program? I can get or have his parents get and put on his xo.

XOs have a built in Activity for kids to chat with kids using XOs see: http://activities.sugarlabs.org/en-US/sugar/addon/4069

There are a few options, but consider installing programs that already run on the XO such as IRC
http://activities.sugarlabs.org/en-US/sugar/addon/4029 which can chat with several IRC programs that will run in Windows 7. This will take some research and testing on your part.

Then there is Skype which will run on the XO under its open source optional boot up, see: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Skype

Sandy,

How 'bout Sugar LiveCD or LiveUSB (Sugar-on-a-stick).

Chat has had a rocky road on SoaS but appears to be on a roll now.

These are suppose to be available through on-disk.com now (or soon) for low media and copying cost.

Frogger: SoaS (Sugar-on-a Stick) is Sugar on a USB drive that runs entirely from the USB drive.
See http://www.sugarlabs.com . Then you and your grandson could both be running "XO Chat"
