Help!! Standard Sugar Cursor

Postby LuDeRose » Wed Oct 15, 2008 10:50 am

Hi!

I'm working in a project for my university about an application for sugar and I really really need the SVG or any kind of vector file of "Standard Sugar Cursors", like this one: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Image:Sugar-00.png I need it to use in Adobe Illustrator. Does anyone know where I can get it? I looked everywhere already!!

My email is luderose@gmail.com

Thanks!

Lu,

probably the best place to ask is the dev list (though i am surprised it isn't on the wiki somewhere).

the sugar icons are located in /usr/share/icons/sugar. The files are SVG (vector) format that can be opened in AI (Illustrator)

Lu,
sorry for the presumption on my part. I was assuming that you did have an XO. I'm at work right now, but I can collect the icons into a zip file and email you later today.

Lu,
The image you mentioned in your original post links to the page: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Sugar_Standard_Icons

This page explains how to use these cursors as .xbm (X BitMap) files. They are not in the XO as SVG files.

I was able to take all the SVGs in the /usr/share/icons/sugar directory and create a zip, which I am emailing to you. I also added 2 XBM cursor files that were downloadable from the http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Sugar_Standard_Icons page.

Aunti, thank you so much.

However, I still don't know how to use the cursor png file...
I have never seen this XBM extension. Is it specific of XO?
But I guess it's ok because I only need it for a layout for my project in Illustrator.
(I'm undergraduating in design.)

Lu,
the PNG file is just a list of examples. Its not the actual cursor file(s).

I've never used XBM files either, but according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XBM) they are a special format for cursors in the X Windowing system. As best I understand they are compiled files, so you can't open and manipulate them using Photoshop/GIMP/Illustrator/Inkscape.

But you could autotrace (LiveTrace) the image in Illustrator to create a vector.

See http://bugs.sugarlabs.org/ticket/2950 for a vectorized version of the Sugar hand pointer.
