Looking for EMACS 23-1

Postby pbajfvr1962 » Sun Mar 08, 2009 11:35 am

I tend to mess around with my XO trying to learn about it.

Mostly I save the little (real little) pearls of wisdom on bash scripts so when things get messed up I can wipe the memory and reinstall from the a flash drive and the sd card.

This time around I'm having trouble with EMACS. I've read the http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Emacs page and tried the various ways to setup EMACS. Of them all I prefer version 23-1 by Chip ColdWell by leaps and bounds.

My problem now is that it seems like the http://people.redhat.com repository seems to have been shut down. Downloads from that site are no longer possible.

I've searched around to find the emacs-release-23-1.fc8.noarch.rpm with no luck. Does anyone know of a mirror whare I can find it?

i've bumped into the same problem (no XFT version at redhat?!)

and while i can use "emacs -nw" i'd really like to use some legible fonts.
my first attempt was to use the "emacs --font 'Dejavu Sans Mono-8'" suggestion, but that font isn't found. using fc-list and fc-match made me try "DejaVu LGC Sans" which is installed, but that isn't found either? what's wrong here?
