It died out of the blue.

Postby stallworth6 » Fri Mar 13, 2009 9:33 am

We bought the laptop for our daughter back at Christmas time. By mid January it had died. It was not dropped, no water was spilled on it, nothing... She went to boot it up and we cannot get past the little icon screen.

We have tried repeatedly to contact the company and cannot reach anyone. We have emailed and left voice mail messages..none of which have been returned.

Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with this computer and what we can do to repair it? We bought two and donated one so I hope the child who rec'd it is having better luck than we are. :|

Here is a guide to troubleshooting, see:

http://wiki.laptop.org/go/XO_Troubleshooting_Guide

If you cannot find the problem, consider a full update , note that you will lose any saved files on the XO, see:

http://wiki.laptop.org/go/No-fail_update

and finally, if you are still stuck consider asking for help at a volunteer repair center, see:

Thank you. My husband ended up doing the reflash thingie. My daughter loves it and I was happy to be part of something I believe to be so necessary (one laptop one child) but dang...their customer service is non-existent.

stucked key probably ?
a firmwre update by flash should fix it, unsure if this icon as described comes in after or in before a interaction possibilty to go into a kind of "safe mode" since most of the systems have these icons during post so it could well be a hardware failure. are there external devices or memory cards involved, a proprietary filesystem with preallocated and forced starting bit of like a camera on there may get things stucked ?
