Have not gone to Opera 10, but here is a reference that may be useful.

http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Opera

It mentions that version 9.64 can be installed from a previous version by using the -U option in the rpm. Maybe version 10 the same way ?

This depends what operating system you are using. If you have not installed a different operating system on your XO like DebXO or Ubuntu Intrepid. If you're using the software your xo came with it will be based on Fedora Core 7. Opera offered binaries for Fedora 10, 11, and 12. I recommend installing Ubuntu using these instructions if you haven't already done so. Then you can install opera 10 by downloading the deb package from the downloads page .

Now opera is loaded new features like turbo which increase speed on lower connection. It is very easy thing to install it.But it is depend on your users that you use.First you have need java midlet manager and you have also need to install J9JavaVMMidp20.prc and JavaVMCheck_enUS.prc is good for you. After that you have type www.mini.opera.com and follow the instruction.I hope that you can do very well.

I install Opera 10 few days ago only as I was having some issues with firefox . But opera 10 is keeping on crashing and even it is slow. so again I reinstall this and install the older version of Opera and now it's working perfectly.
