Hello: I have two XO-1 that i got thru the G1G1 program just under the wire (2008). I have updated it from as-delivered (activities in a row at bottom build 656?), to 767 (sometime in 2008) to 802 (in 2009), and currently 859 then 860 (those numbers versus versions confuse me). The Version is 10.1.3. It runs very well as far as it goes. I prefer to use Gnome desktop.
However it is "crippled" by the following:
1. No Flash Player that works. GNASH (supplied) just won't run on many sites. Every attempt to install a Flash Player (10.1...) is the latest runs into a dead end, primarily in the instructions provided by Adobe. Some examples (refer to
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplay ... tructions/for tar.gz: -- I am told to copy the libflashplayer.so from desktop to the plugins folder of my browser (Firefox is supplied). I have it on the desktop, I can find the folder; but when i try to copy i am told that i "need to be owner". How do i become an owner?. Dead end
for .rpm: -- I save the rpm file to the desktop, then am told to "navigate to the desktop". How do i do that?. I couldn't even change directory to desktop. Another dead end:
2. I want to listen to a streaming radio broadcast. I enter the address. It is suggested i open with "Movie Player". Then i receive a message: "the playback of this movie requires a MPEG-1 Layer3(MP3) decoder plug-in which is not installed. Where do i find instructions, specific to this version not generalities, to install this plug-in (that is so basic--why wasn't it there to begin with

)
and so time-wasting frustrations go
Otherwise the lastest build/version for the XO-1 appears to operate OK. Most sites that don't require the above mentioned plug-ins seem OK, though slow. (i'll probably encounter other dead ends that keep it from running like my MAC

)
