A complicating factor would be my ignorance of Linux terminology. I'm a long-time Mac user, which I'm guessing will be of little help here.
TIA!
So Grandpa wants to give Daughter his iPod - is there much hope of managing this on her XO? If so, would it be useful/necessary to use an external USB drive to store the audio files?

Patrik,
I have successfully used my Ipod as a portable hard drive for use with the xo. Currently Linux applications lack support for the latest version of Ipod. It however may be feasible, in the future, to port a standard linux media program to the XO. Based on the limited space of the xo, a portable hard drive would be necessary.

An offline acquaintance suggested gtkpod - would that fall into the "not easily installed" or the "can't do this" category?
I realize MP3 players don't really fall under the original intent of the XO; I'm just trying to ascertain how best to accommodate generous family members while avoiding the XO being dumped in favor of Mom's laptop being perpetually "borrowed"...![]()
Thank you everyone!

GTKpod may be sugarizeable at a later date, until then it may be able to be run from the command line.
I will look at the possibilities later today.
Best of luck,

I have GTKpod successfully running on the XO.
If you pm me on the IRC Channel or give me your email address, I can
walk you through it at your convenience.
