copy-to-journal: Add data to the Journal from the filesystem

Postby Phil » Fri Dec 21, 2007 7:53 pm

All XOs need Daft Punk.

That said, the only USB mass device I have lying around is my PSP, and plugging it into my XO makes the Journal deeply unhappy.

An alternate solution was required.

Delightfully quickly, rwh over at dev.laptop.org wrote a simple Python script to pull files in from the filesystem and stuff them into the Journal. I took that script, added more options, and fixed a problem that kept it from working for me.

The script is available in the initial bug report, or at wiki.laptop.org.

Usage is simple:
Code: Select all
python copy-to-journal somefile.ogg -m application/ogg -T music -T awesome -d "Best song ever."

(You can use -h as a parameter to get help.)

Note that currently this script must be run in the Terminal activity on the XO and not through a SSH session, as it requires GTK. This is a bug, not a feature, and will eventually get fixed (and you can help!).

Let me know if you have any questions or comments. I'm Phil_Bordelon on IRC and Phil on most of the other l.o services.
