Got it today

I'm really imrpessed by the hardware and how solidly it is built. I'm still trying to get it to work with my secure WEP access point at home (or any other AP), but it's only day 1, so I'm not to upset about that.

I would suggest you disable encryption for a short time so you can do an olpc-update to get the latest version. You'll find it plays much better with WEP and WPA...

I got it working by shutting off WEP and turning on SSID broadcast on my access point. I don't want to run like that forever, because I don't want a bunch of freeloaders hogging my DSL connection.

I'm running 656, which accoring to the wiki is the latest stable release. Are you suggesting I update to 691?

No - I assume folks that just got their XO are using 650. 656 should have better support. I know folks have better success getting WEP running using a Hex key rather than an ASCII or numeric key - perhaps this applies to you? You could also try WPA if your other devices support it.
