Re: Updating and Software Builds

Hi I am new to the XO forum. (hope this is the right place for question)

I received my G1G1 XO just under a week ago, when I got it I checked the version of the O/S, and I needed to update to Build 767.

I have tried updating twice, and got the same results. Is this a BUG? and is there anything I can do about it?

I got:
Trying irsync_pristine update from rsync://updates. laptop.org/build-767
- Cleaning tree.
- Fetching contents.
- Performing incremental rsync.
Verifying update.
Contents manifest failure at line 383
Last file examined: group-
Trying irsync_dirty update from rsync://updates.laptop.org/build-767
- Creating contents for existing tree.
- Fetching contents.
- Performing incremental rsync.
Verifying update.
Installing update in /versions/{pristine,run}/60ab7dd13168405e4f9207c48a452a5a

I now get when opening up Wikipedia (from hone), "rainbow-daemon Could not intialize the application's security component."

Have not tried all the applications in depth, but they seem to open up okay.

Also when closing down I get a whole page of invalid file (I think it says file) come up before closing down. I make sure I have no activities running.

Thank you for any help

Recommend you do a clean install. See post just above yours.

The have been several incidents reported on this forum of newly delivered XO's having corrupted software ( maybe the cold during shipping ?).

Also, the following is a very very detailed step by step instructions for reinstalling the software:

Thank you,
it has seemed to work mainly.
I have not been through everything since doing fresh install.
Wiki opens okay now, but when shutting down from this still getting fail, before shut down.
If do not open Wiki, shut down is fine now.

How do I determine what is the current build on the XO ?

From the terminal, type cat /boot/olpc_build
Note the space between cat and the first forward slash.

Unless you have previously upgraded, it will be 650. Build 653 only fixes a
few bugs, so it is not being advised to upgrade unless you have one of those
specific problems.

I'm working on upgrading my xo to the official 802 but after reading the "no_fail" page, I may have downloaded the wrong files. I used another internet connection to download the images from http://download.laptop.org/xo-1/os/official/802/jffs2/ but the image file here is only listed as 233MB. This is contrary to the "no_fail" page suggestion to download the file from http://download.laptop.org/xo-1/custom/g1g1/gg-802-1/ showing 454MB. Please tell me I can still upgrade with my 233MB file. What is the difference? Activities?

^^^

To update, I loaded the "official" release and I do not have ANY programs loaded except for the Journal.
FYI, in case anyone is debating running the "official" release.

Updating and Software builds:

The smaller image file contains just the operating system. The larger file image file contains the operating system plus the Activities.

Hello, My xo quit connecting to the internet. I keep getting a message secure connection failed. The neighborhood shows the wi-fi circle is coated white but fails to connect. What do I do ???

What version of the software are you using ? There may be a problem with some of the newer builds.

The manual has some very good troubleshooting suggestions and links. The manual is the "?" Activity.
Look at the Network section.

I have been trying toupdate my operating system which is 656. Now, unfortunately, my mouse and key board is frozen. Can anyone advise me on either of those problems?
Thank you in advance!

For XO assemble overhaul I think the AC power necessity is only a security issue. Notwithstanding, for Firmware overhaul it is a prerequisite. Misfortune of force might cause a block. Perhaps OLPC-Update does a firmware overhaul likewise?
