ebooks retrieval

It would be great if there could be a site either on laptop.org or at Project Gutenberg where children's books could be downloaded simply - not having to walk through all the choices of format etc since all the XO can read is pdf..

Such index lists already exist: check out the lists maintained by the friendly people at del.icio.us with a simple search like:
http://del.icio.us/search/?fr=del_icio_us&p=children+book+pdf&type=all

The advantage of this: the list is maintained and updated (by people who care about children's books) and includes content beyond Project Gutenberg.

That's a great site. I'm not sure how my 8 year old grandkid will react to it or if she can manage to find the pdfs on her own. Mebbeso.

Is there any way that I or her dad could download some of these onto the SD card and use them that way? I haven't figured out how to do that.

downloading to SD

You can download a set of books into the journal, and then transfer them to the SD card by dragging them onto it [from the main journal view, an SD card icon will appear in the bottom frame when you insert a card].

This is a bit cumbersome for lots of files, but it works. Then you can similarly find things on the3 sd card from the journal (double click on it to open it) and 'resume' them from the journal to read.
