These cost money to read and are Flash based so they are not ebooks. Wish we'd see some links to real ebooks - text format or PDFs...

Project Gutenberg. It's been around since the internet was text only:

http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

or the Australian version which has shorter copyright laws:

http://gutenberg.net.au/

or just google free ebooks.
If I give advice it is usually because I did it / tested it successfully on my XO. I will warn you otherwise.

More ebooks to keep your XO busy for the rest of your life. Don't forget to eat. :)

Another comment on e-books..The XO reader likes PDF files so I download free Gutenberg books and use Word Perfect to "publish" them to PDF. I am not sure if Word has a similar capability.

Or you can install FBReader which not only allows you to read many other formats besides pdf but will also save your place in a book when you close it so that you don't have to remember where you left off reading.

Or you can install Read Etexts (a handy activity right on the XO page), which reads the most common Gutenburg format (no need to convert to PDFs), and reads straight from Zip files (faster than PDFs, takes less space). Text-only, though, so better for Jane Austen than picture books. Works fine for me with Build 650.

Also, see links I've collected about ebooks under http://www.connotea.org/user/selkins/tag/ebook, or for ebook stuff specifically OLPC-related, see http://www.connotea.org/user/selkins/tag/OLPC+ebook.

a good resource is manybooks.net

it has most of the gutenberg library, but downloadable in other formats.

i have found (as was pointed out on some other postng) that 'large print' works best for ebook mode.

I like to use CutePDF, which works as a virtual "printer," so that you can create PDFs from any program with printout capability.

While looking at the Kindle reviews, I came across this site for ebooks
http://www.feedbooks.com/
They are available in pdf format which will work on the XO.

i highly reccommend the gutenberg reader for the XO, it reads in txt (even in zipped txt's) which makes it much easier to get from places:
