DANGER OF GOING CRAZY! STILL NEED SU SKYPE COMMAND

Postby paceno » Sun Aug 10, 2008 12:28 pm

Hello Again.

Still trying to put in the proper command to open SKYPE. The web page at
for SKPYE command says just type in SKYPE when I get to the terminal.

I have done this successfully a few months ago but simply forgot the command. I would be so grateful for some help here. Going CRAZY!

-bash-3.2# skype says command not found

Many thanks,

John

What an interesting program! I might install it myself, if I can find its digital signature. Anyone know how?

It seems to live in /usr/bin. Typing skype from terminal should work. Are you sure it didn't get erased in an secure upgrade or other accident?

Thanks for the tip!

How can I see if SKYPE has been trashed or not?
I think I installed it from this web page:

http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Skype

Best wishes,

John

Here is some code to type in terminal. The "ls" command is used to list files. The "cd" command is used to change directories.
Code: Select all
ls -l /usr/bin/skype

My guess is this just says "No such file or directory" which would confirm that skype is not installed, or at least not installed properly.

Thanks again Cuprum,

I tried

ls -l /usr/bin/skype

and you are right. Is tells me No such file or directory.

Hmmm. Winder how that happened. It worked perfectly last winter and I do not recall making any updates or anything.

Before I try to install again., just want to make sure i spaced the command you gave me correctly.
ls -l /usr/bin/skype

If it is correct, I will go to that web page I sent you and try to reinstall.

Want to try to install SKYPE together?

After that, I want top try Reciva https://www.reciva.com/ and see if I can receive WI FI ok.

Many thanks for your help.

I would but I still haven't gotten the hang of verifying digital signatures in linux. The public key is part of some gpg server or something like that. I don't have time at the moment.

Thanks for the tip on reciva, tried it on a window machine.

Still having trouble getting SKYPE. It appears to be installed again but I cannot bring it up.
Am I missing a simple command here?
Thanks,

John

PS. I tried typing in all the info that appeared on my screen when I tried to get SKYPE. I can share this by e-mail with anyone who might be able to to help but this info does not seem to post on this site. Maybe too much info.
