Still can't disable mesh or watch YouTube

Postby jdirden » Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:09 pm

I have owned an XO laptop since the initial G1G1 program last year -- got it in time for Christmas. Two of the very first requests for changes way back then were:

1. The ability to permanently disable Mesh Networking.
2. The ability to view smooth, high-quality You Tube Videos.

I still need both of these capabilities and was somewhat amazed to learn that neither capability has been provided after all this time and people are *still* requesting them.

Are there any current plans for providing these two capabilities?

P.S.: I sent this same question to help@laptop.org on November 8, got the auto-reply email, but no response.

1. The ability to permanently disable Mesh Networking.

This ability is basically there. Here's one way:

1. Run Terminal and become root by typing "su -" (without the quotes)
2. type "echo 0 > /sys/class/net/eth0/lbs_mesh" (without the quotes, and press enter)

To make this happen each time you boot into Fedora/Sugar:

1. Run Terminal and become root by typing "su -" (without the quotes)
2. type - now you *do* want to type the quotes - all this below (and press enter):
echo "echo 0 > /sys/class/net/eth0/lbs_mesh" >> /etc/rc.local

There isn't a GUI way to do this, but the above is not too painful, hopefully.

(This was enabled as part of http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/5144 , it seems)
