here is another good list:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_commands

remember, most of linux's commands are based off of unix, so a book on either should (for the basic stuff at least) work.

http://www.linux.org/ has a great 'Linux 101' and is probably what you're looking for. It was certainly necessary for me, coming back to LInux as a third-time around newbie.

I understand your pain, and to those who are blithely saying

'Don't be afraid, just dive in!'

it's understandable for you to reply

'What is this dive thing? Which folder is it in?'

because they've forgotten how much they've learned and what it's like to not even know what a planet IS let alone which one you're actually on.

It's also important to remember that you aren't doing anything mission critical(I think). So don't worry about messing things us, you can always reinstall, and it isn't like you really lost anything but the time to do it.

The more you toy with the command line, the more familiar it will become. The scariness goes away shortly there after :)

1) Why do I have to save my current 656 build on an SD card / USB stick when I can download that from this site at any time? (And how would I download it from my XO directly to an SD card anyways, i.e. how do I identify the specific file and how do I download that using which commands?)

I would like the answer to this very specific question as well.
I have read the thread and it seems to escaped me.
Are we suppose to intuit the linux command to do this on the XO by reading Linux for Dummies and
internet searches that return how to info on the multi-flavor *nix out there which may or may not
work on XO?

Why do you ask these questions? Just go and google it... it would cost you less time and you would surely get better results... btw now when you asked I think http://www.linux.org is nice one... good luck!

Thank you, Infamy.

That was a fun read. AND I read it in book mode, which was my first time doing that.

Thanks,
