Webcam no longer working

Postby nocturnalnights » Tue Dec 22, 2009 6:30 pm

I bought my XO off of eBay. I was going to install Debian Linux on it and use Skype and talk to my wife and son while I am stationed in Iraq.

At first, the video that it captured from the webcam was about 10% of the window, it looked like it was bunched at the top of the window, but you could see the lines move when you moved your hand over the camera, so it sensed movement. I opened it and tried to reconnect the webcam ribbon, and now nothing.

The light still comes on so I know that it's getting power. Is it hardware? Is there a trick? Should I just keep trying to fix the ribbon in perfectly?

I need it fixed before I ship out. Thanks in advance for any help! Merry X-Mas!

Re-seating the ribbon may be the ticket to getting this XO's display back to its best functioning.

There is a risk that taking apart and putting back the ribbons repeatedly will have made some connection not repairable.

See: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Repair

However, it was not designed to run Skype and you may need to do a lot of testing and hacking to get it working well enough.

Be sure to get a developer's key, see:
